This past Friday, August 2nd, was the one year commemoration of the passing of Caleb Pirtle III; who was to me a mentor, friend, and brother.
I direct you to my post of a year ago: https://www.cwhawes.com/in-memoriam-caleb-pirtle-iii/
Unknown to the world at large, he was known to many, an encourager to many, and a supporter of many more.
Even though I didn’t know him for an overly long time, he made a huge impact in my life. He was a gentle and quiet tour de force. I felt as though I’d known him forever. In truth, I very much wish I had.
Caleb was a giant among men. He was a rare breed, especially in today’s world. I think I do not exaggerate when I say he was truly selfless.
Even though he is not physically with us any longer, he is definitely with me in spirit. I often find myself asking, “What would Caleb do?” And contemplate what he might say or do in a given situation.
He taught me much about writing, he taught me some significant things about life, and he was indefatigable in his support of my career as a writer.
He was wise in the way of people. He seemed to know just what it was that would lift your spirits, or erase that writer’s block, or reveal the path when you were a bit befuddled.
A writer writes in part, I think, to share something of himself to the world and thereby earn a bit of immortality.
On this one year commemoration of his passing, why not check out his written legacy? You can do so on Amazon.
Read one of his books, get to know him as he speaks through his written words. In doing so, he will continue to live among us.
I very much miss my friend. Yet he has left a part of himself in me. And as long as I live, so does he.
Comments are always welcome! And until next time, happy reading!
